Welcome to our travel stories. The observations, musings and tales of the travels of myself, Pamela Newton and my very loyal companion, aptly named ‘Indigo’. At the time of writing, Indigo is a two year old, beautiful cross breed; a deerhound x whippet x saluki, she accompanies me everywhere I go. Being a textile designer, maker and artist who creates sustainable cloth from natural fibres and dyes; her name befits her position in my life. She is my right hand lady !
We travel around in ‘our home’, a 1993 Mitsubishi Delica camper van; ‘Mitsy’ carries all the necessary commodities for a sustainable life whilst on our travels. With a circular energy system of batteries and water containers compactly tucked in too; constant, consistent recycling is easy. There is a plan to include a portable weaving loom and spinning wheel!
I try to include within the stories of our travels useful tips, places of recommendation and definite must sees from the textile perspective. This is loose, as everywhere I see inspiration and that fits under this description too, so I hope this travelogue will appeal to not so interested in textiles people too !
My name is Pamela Newton. I am a Textile Designer, Maker and Artist just completing my BA Textiles degree in 2018 at Coleg Sir Gar, Carmarthen School of Art. I love to travel in search of inspiration, meeting new people, learning about new crafts and places. I also love to write. I work in natural fibres and colour, being a keen natural dyer, spinner and weaver with a mixed media approach.
I enjoy teaching workshops on natural dyeing amongst other things and always welcome an invitation to share skills and knowledge. You can use the contact form, HERE to get in touch if you would like me to travel to hold a workshop near you.
Along with my loyal, very friendly companion; ‘Indigo’ who is a beautiful dog, a deerhound x whippet x saluki, we travel everywhere in a 1993 Mitsubishi Delica Campervan, fully self sufficient although always glad of a field to park in! Any suggestions please get in touch HERE
Throughout our travels, we collect research for future work.
If you have some suggestions for myself and Indigo to visit we would love to hear from you. Perhaps you are an artist willing to share or have an exhibition, museum or talk we might be interested in.
